Admission Notice for Ph.D. Programme in ‘Agriculture, Rural and Tribal Development’ (ARTD)

Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. Programme (Full Time, Regular) in Agriculture, Rural and Tribal Development at Faculty of ‘Agriculture, Rural & Tribal Development (ARTD)’ located at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Morabadi, Ranchi, Jharkhand. Candidates who wish to pursue research should apply in the prescribed proforma. Forms duly filled in may be sent to the Administrative Head, Faculty of ARTD, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Morabadi, Ranchi-834008, Jharkhand with a demand draft for Rs.500/, drawn in favour of ‘RKMVU RANCHI’ payable at Ranchi or by cash payment at the office of the IRTDM Faculty Centre, Morabadi, Ranchi-834008, Jharkhand. The eligible candidates will have to appear in a written examination (Research Eligibility Test or RET for short) of 2 hour duration as per UGC requirement, to be held in the above Faculty Centre on 28 January 2017 (Saturday) at 10 am. The successful candidates will be called for an interview (the exact date and time will be confirmed later) and the selected candidates will be informed on the same day. Candidates who have already passed National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by ICAR/ UGC/ CSIR or equivalent examinations need not appear at the written examination, but will have to appear at the interview. Candidates who have appeared in the final semester of the qualifying examination may also apply, but documents (mark sheet etc.) showing that the candidate has undeniably passed that qualifying examination should be produced at the time of joining the Ph.D. programme.

Eligibility:

For Social Science Category: M.A./M.Sc. in Anthropology (Social and Cultural Anthropology)/ Integrated M.Sc. in Agriculture, Rural & Tribal Development / M.Sc. in Agriculture and Rural Development / M.A. in Rural Development/ Development Studies and allied subjects with at least 55% aggregate marks. Relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST candidates will be made as per rules. Preference will be given to the NET/JRF qualified candidates.

For Horticulture/Agriculture and Allied Sciences Category:  M.Sc. in Horticulture/ Integrated M.Sc. in Agriculture, Rural & Tribal Development /M.Sc. in Agriculture and Rural Development/M.Sc. in Agriculture with specialization in Horticulture with at least 55% aggregate marks. Relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST candidates will be made as per rules. Preference will be given to the NET/JRF qualified candidates.

Candidates without UGC/ICAR/CSIR JRF, if found academically bright and motivated for research, will be paid a consolidated fellowship of Rs.13000/- per month.

Supervisors:

Dr. Dipankar Chatterjee, Assistant Professor, Dept. of ARTD, Faculty of IRTDM under the School of Agriculture and Rural Development at Ranchi Campus of the University will be the Research Supervisor/Guide for the aspirant of Social Science Category and the area will be broadly Anthropology of Livelihood and Public Policy with emphasis on Jharkhand. Students with knowledge about the Rural Livelihood scenario of the State of Jharkhand and motivated to work in this area will be preferred. For the present, one candidate will be selected for the Ph.D. programme in this area.  

Dr. Avijit Kr. Dutta, Assistant Professor, Department of Agriculture, Rural and Tribal Development, Faculty of IRTDM under the School of Agriculture and Rural Development at Ranchi Campus of the University will be the Research Supervisor/Guide for the aspirant of Horticulture/Agriculture and Allied Sciences Category and the area will be broadly horticulture with emphasis on organic farming related research in vegetables. Students with knowledge about the horticulture map of the State of Jharkhand, knowledge on organic farming related research and motivated to work in this area will be preferred. For the present, one candidate will be selected for the Ph.D. programme in this area.
