Participatory Planning of Sirka-Sonuabera Village of Angara Block, Ranchi, Jharkhand

Background: This study aimed to determine the bio-physical and socio-economic characteristics of the Community, to determine the problems encountered by the community with emphasis on livestock, agriculture and livelihood and to recommend appropriate plans of action in addressing these problems. Field observation and interviews with key informants were conducted. The data gathered served as basis in the preparation of a Community Development Plan for Sirka-Sonuabera Village. In addition, this data provided guidelines in plan implementation as well as serving as a basis for determining the different changes or accomplishments to be made. The survey’s results showed that there are many problems faced by the community, including low income, lack of capital and credit sources, low prices of products and business management. Several plans of action that were made and proposed included strengthening of the existing farmers’.

Research Methods: This study was conducted during 2013 at Sirka-Sonuabera village finding of different problems related to agricultural activities, health & sanitation, migration, infrastructural, educational problems and given to master plan which is most important keys to solve the major problems on the basis of base-line survey. The information was collected both randomly and purposively depending on the nature of data collected. The data collection techniques include the household survey with the help of schedule, focused and personal interview, participant’s observation, guided the field walks etc. Finally the data were processed and analysed categorically to arrive the conclusion. This study’s main motto to build a sustainable model village which is came from the Ghandi’s concept.

Findings: Considerable efforts were made to study the village Development Planning of rural people with a view to understanding the suitable plan base of the communities residing in Sirka-Sonuabera village. This study has tried to explore the linkages between subsistence the economy and utilization and conservation of natural resources among the Sirka-Sonuabera villagers of the Angara Block, Ranchi District in Jharkhand State. The findings shows that in Sirka-Sonuabera village most of the farmers are belongs to small and marginal categories. They are use traditional agricultural implements in their agricultural fields. They are generally slow adoption in nature. The different problems are face to the villagers due to the lack of good educational facilities, good infrastructural facilities, and good health care facilities. Migration one of the major problems in Sirka-Sonuabera village. Base on the findings I get the different suitable plan for selected villages. This plan also provide implementation as well as serving as a basis for determining the different changes or accomplishments to be made. And this studies main aim to develop this village in integrated manner. Different PRA tools are attached with this study.

Conclusion: The purpose of this Village Development plan was to empower the community to have a clear understanding of their problems and realistic solutions to these problems. An efficient and dynamic Government worked tirelessly with focus groups and other NGO in bringing forth community problems. Sirka-Sonuabera is a good example of a community that is ready to mobilise both skilled and unskilled labour when it comes to developmental issues. If mismanagement of funds raised for development does not occur, then the youth and the physically fit of Sirka-Sonuabera can provide the man power needed to realise identified projects. The identified projects, if implemented, would have a positive impact on the community.
